In the 1980s, Dr. Mullenix was Head of the Toxicology Department at the Forsyth Dental Center, a world renowned dental research institution affiliated with the Harvard Medical School. She was invited to start Forsyth's Toxicology Department because of her expertise in neurotoxicology. She is presently a Research Associate in Psychiatry at the Children's Hospital Medical Center in Boston. Dr. Mullenix's academic appointments, professional positions held, teaching experience, awards, honors and many published scientific research articles to her name are numerous. The first test Dr. Mullenix was asked to perform at the Forsyth Dental Center was a test related to neurotoxicity of fluoride. The person who asked her to perform this test was Dr. Harold C. Hodge, one of the founders of the Society of Toxicology. Since that time, Dr. Mullenix has conducted additional research related to fluoride including one study, which is about to be published.

This took place between Professor Michael Lennon, Chairman of the British Fluoridation Society, and Professor Paul Connett, Saint Lawrence University New York, Director of the Fluoride Action Network USA and on the Isle of Man, Nov 20,2007.
He attended the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his general surgical internship and neurosurgical residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. During his residency he ran the neurology program for one year and did a fellowship in neurosurgery after his residency.
For the past 25 years he has practiced neurosurgery in addition to having a nutritional practice. He recently retired from both practices to devote full time to nutritional studies and research. During his residency training he worked with the eminent neurosurgeon, Dr. Ludwig Kempe. Together they developed the transcollosal removal of intraventricular tumors, which is still used today. Dr. Blaylock presented their cases utilizing this technique to the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. They also developed the ventriculolymphatic shunt in the treatment of hydrocephalus. In addition, they conducted neuroanatomical studies together with the aim of developing improved approaches in vascular intracranial surgery.
Dr. Blaylock serves on the editorial staff of the Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association and is the associate editor of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, official journal of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons. He has a monthly nutrition newsletter, published by NewsMax.com, The Blaylock Wellness Newsletter. Dr. Blaylock serves as the medical consultant for the Fluoride Toxicity Research Collaborative. He was recently awarded the Integrity in Science award by the Westin Price Foundation.
He is a member of the American Association of Physicians and Surgeons, the American Nutraceutical Association, the International and American Associations of Clinical Nutritionist, the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, American College of Nutrition, American Association for Health Freedom, National Health Federation, American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation. He was recently appointed as a member of the Scientific Advisory Panel of the Life-Extension Foundation.

Since baby animals exposed to fluoride develop high levels of free radicals in their brains, it makes one wonder what happens to human babies.
Unfortunately, it is the same damage.
Researchers examined the brains of aborted babies five to eight months into a pregnancy who were from areas having naturally high fluoride levels in the drinking water.
What researchers found was alarming
The brain cells of the babies were grossly abnormal and nerve fibers were not even compatible with typical human nerve fibers.
The brain cells in the babies were grossly abnormal and the nerve fibers were misplaced and swollen.
These brains were miswired.
Keep in mind the fluoride levels in the drinking water were within the “safety guidelines” established by the EPA.
No other causes for this damage were found.

SUMMARY: Recent evidence indicates that fluoride produces neuronal destruction and synaptic injury by a mechanism that involves free radical production and lipid peroxidation. For a number of pathological disorders of the central nervous system (CNS), excitotoxicity plays a critical role. Various studies have shown that many of the neurotoxic metals, such as mercury, lead, aluminum, and iron also injure neural elements in the CNS by an excitotoxic mechanism. Free radical generation and lipid peroxidation, especially in the face of hypomagnesemia and low neuronal energy production, also magnify excitotoxic sensitivity of neurons and their elements.
This paper reviews briefly some of the studies that point to a common mechanism for the CNS neurotoxic effects of fluoride and calls for research directed toward further elucidation of this mechanism.
